Well were back home , What a week !!!!!
From the start this trip was allwys going to be tricky with the freezing conditions and it certainly was .....
From the off on fri morning i had to deliver bait around cornwall and devon on the way to meet Tim,Rod and Andy in Somerset , By the time i got to mid Devon i was on the phone saying dont think im going to make it as the snow was getting rather serious .
Made it to Rods an hour late loaded and got on the way only to find the M5 At a standstill , once that started moving we were rather late so the carpark that is the M25 was the last thing we needed , Still we got the ferry (they let us on way after final check in time) 20 miles SW of calais and we hit a freak snow storm and was doing about 12mph for around an hour . Still we arrived at around 6am and within minuites
Kim had the kettle on .
After a very welcome breakfast and the arrival of daylight we ventured onto the dam wall .
OH dear !!!! the dam end and some 30yds from the margin up the right of the lake past trstans/steps/dugout was still covered in ice !!!!!!
We knew weather was due to warm up so Lee went out on the boat and broke up the ice so that we could start Fishing.
As nick and colin have mentioned the catches went quite well in the first couple days but will come to that in a bit!!!
The weather did indeed warm up for us and conditions looked great ,Then Steve announces that we are due some big winds and heavy rain , And warned us that he was waiting for a diver to fix a problem with the sluice gates so if we had a lot of rain we could be in trouble with the water level .
With heavy rain and hail showers the fishing was going better than we could have hoped then on Wed very stong winds made it arkward and brought down several trees (one into the lake). Thurs Brought worse weather and just on Dark an amazing thunder storm that lasted some 3 hrs , i have never seen anything like it before. then the calm and i was buzzing and had "that feeling" that something was going to happen, i sat out by the rods spoke to Nick on the mobile and waited but nothing!!!! then at about 11.30 the serious weather arrived so i retired to the bedchair and within minuits the Delkim was screaming , not one of the big girls i was hoping for but a 36 that was more than welcome. Massive winds and heavy rain all night we all took a bit of a battering but none more than Tim who had moved in the afternoon and decided to fish Firs under an open fronted Cyfish!!!! Hahahahahaha
Fri saw the water level rising fast so we all decided to pack up in the evening and spend the final night in the clubhouse with our great hosts.
Good move as sat am every swin on the lake was under water !!!!!!!
Sorry to drag on .. Right what we caught . we all caught well although a little sparodic as the fish wanted the bait but backed off of the pressure once a couple got hooked in an area !!!!
We didnt manage any of the big girls but we had ..
2 x 40s at 44.12 and 44lb
5x mid/high 30s and 1 low 30
3 of the commons stocked just over a year ago , talk about weight gain !! at 29 28.8 and 27 What stunning fish these are !!!
We had a further 13 mid/high 20s
and the rest were low to mid 20s and doubles ...
In total 50 carp landed and 7 lost between the 4 of us ..
Not bad for a winter session on the back of such a long cold spell.
All fish were caught on Cornwall baits Special Occasion or the new BQ .
I have done quite a few french trips and this one is up there with the best of them not only for the results but a great week with different challenges and Brilliant company
both fishing companions and hosts.
im sure the others will put there piece on later.
As allways a massive thanks must go to Brian and Rose , Steve and Kim ,And this years new baliff Lee and his wife Sarah for making us so welcome and all they do . Lee certainly knows what to expect now He got rather wet numerous times moving us around etc on the boat !!!
Was great to spend some time with Steve and Kim and good to steve on the mend .
Thanks to all for making this another brilliant and memorable trip ...
Sorry this is so long but im still buzzing !!!!
Cheers , See you all again in october ...... IAN
